Loading it onto a float and hauling it to town can cost more than the repair, and it puts the whole crew standing around while it happens.

Hydraulic leaks and blown hoses

The most common excavator call by a wide margin. Boom, stick, bucket and travel lines chafe, age and burst. We build replacement hose on-site, refill and purge the system, and look at the routing so the same line doesn't fail again next month.

Weak or slow hydraulic functions

A machine that lifts poorly, curls slowly, or loses power as it heats up. Causes include low or contaminated fluid, a restricted suction, a failing pump, relief valve problems, or worn cylinders. Pressure testing separates them instead of guessing.

Engine no-start and derates

Batteries, starters, fuel restriction, air in the fuel system, DEF and aftertreatment faults, and sensor problems all keep excavators from firing or running properly. We pull codes and test rather than swap components.

Overheating

Plugged coolers packed with dust and debris, a failed fan or fan drive, a stuck thermostat, or a leaking hose. Hydraulic oil overheating causes just as much damage as coolant overheating, and both show up on tight, hot job sites.

Swing, travel and final drive issues

A machine that won't swing, drifts on a slope, tracks unevenly, or leaks oil at a final drive. Diagnosis determines whether it's hydraulic, a motor, or a mechanical failure inside the drive.

Electrical and control faults

Dead displays, joystick and pilot control problems, wiring chafed by the boom or track frame, corroded connectors and failing sensors. Wet, muddy work is hard on excavator wiring.

Signs an excavator needs service

  • Hydraulic fluid on the boom, tracks or ground under the machine.
  • Functions slower or weaker than they were, especially once warmed up.
  • The boom or stick drifts down when held in position.
  • Pump noise, whining or cavitation under load.
  • Coolant or hydraulic temperature gauges reading higher than normal.
  • Tracking to one side when both levers are pushed evenly.
  • A fault code, warning lamp or reduced-power condition on the display.
  • Oil weeping from a final drive or swing motor.

Excavator repair questions

Can you get to a machine that's stuck in soft ground?

We can reach most sites, but the service truck needs solid ground to work from. If the machine is buried in mud, it may need to be walked or pulled to firmer ground first — tell us the situation on the phone and we'll figure out the plan together.

Do you work on tracks and undercarriage?

Track tensioning, adjuster and idler issues, and roller and sprocket inspection are field work. Full undercarriage replacement is a bigger job that usually makes more sense in a yard with proper support and equipment.

Can you diagnose a hydraulic problem without the machine's dealer software?

A lot of hydraulic diagnosis is mechanical — pressure testing, flow behaviour, temperature and leak-down. Some newer machines gate certain electronic adjustments behind dealer software, and we'll be upfront if that's the limit on your machine.

Do you carry hydraulic oil and filters?

Common hydraulic oils and filters travel with us. Tell us the make and model when you call so we bring the correct spec.

Can you replace a final drive in the field?

Sometimes, depending on machine size, ground conditions and lifting requirements. Smaller machines are realistic; large ones usually aren't. We'll tell you honestly which category yours falls into.

Can you service a machine on a weekend?

Often, yes — many operators prefer it, since the machine isn't producing anyway. Call and we'll see what fits.
